Celina Agaton is a speaker, writer, strategist, community organizer and digital marketing director. She creates opportunities for community driven innovation, sustainable partnerships and crosssector collaboration in cities around the world.
While Communications Director at Volunteer Toronto, Celina developed a training and technology program, and created a discount program to support Volunteer Toronto’s community of 500 nonprofit organizations. She created Volunteer Toronto’s ChariTee campaign which was sponsored by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, George Brown’s School of Design students and Free the Children social enterprise, Me to We Style.
She conceptualized and launched Volunteer Toronto’s Free Movie Night, a social change film series that brought together government, non-profits, business and volunteers, to connect them to social innovation events and collaboration opportunities. These free movie nights brought together audiences of 300 people at each screening and grew to international events in 9 cities. Celina collaborated with volunteers to create Volunteer Connect, a Facebook application for volunteer opportunities, which was endorsed by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
She consults as the Digital Marketing Director to renowned innovation and technology thought leader, Don Tapscott, and was a contributor to Don’s latest book, Macrowikinomics: New Solutions for a Connected Planet. She also consults as the Director of Community Engagement for Don Tapscott’s Open Cities initiative, a global consultancy that leverages social networking to engage the public in key dimensions of urban transformation.
Prior to joining the social innovation sector in 2008, Celina worked in marketing and communications for McMichael Canadian Art Collection and Four Seasons Hotel Toronto. She then spent six years in advertising, working with doctors, patients, governments and creative teams launching national campaigns for healthcare companies.
She is a David Suzuki Foundation Ambassador, Toronto Maker Faire Co-Organizer, Art Gallery of Ontario advisor, Food Forward board member and advisor to global technology group, Netsquared. Celina volunteers as a crisis mapper, working with global emergency response teams to provide technical and social media expertise to countries experiencing emergencies and disasters.
